When To Visit The Maldives – Discovering Maldives with Vilamendhoo

Picture the perfect tropical holiday destination – white sandy beaches, crystal clear lagoons, balmy temperatures of about 30°C and plenty of sunshine – discover all of this at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa! But before booking you’ll want to find out about when to visit the Maldives – afterall, most tropical holidays have to be planned around the monsoons and have only a short window of opportunity for good weather, there’s good news: the Maldives is a year-round destination.

The seasons in the Maldives are due to two main monsoons, each bringing different weather patterns. High season runs from November to April and is governed by the North-East Monsoon. At this time of year you can expect fantastic weather: flat calm seas, great underwater visibility for snorkelling and scuba diving as well as plenty of sunshine. Low season starts in May and goes through to October following the South-West Monsoon and although the weather can be less settled at this time of year the sun still shines. Divers and snorkellers will love low season as the slightly decreased visibility is due to increased plankton levels – and with plankton comes a greater than usual abundance of fish. No matter when you visit the Maldives, there is no absolute rule with regards to rainfall – the islands’ lush vegetation depends on rain and it occurs throughout the year but, rest assured, it’s usually short lived and the perfect chance to visit the spa or sip a cocktail and, before you know it, the sun will have reappeared!

The seasons don’t really matter too much with regards to marine life either – Vilamendhoo’s enviable location in South Ari Atoll is perfect for those bucket-list encounters all year round – the manta rays and whale sharks take no notice of the season, luckily for our divers and snorkelers, sightings are possible in every month.

Whether you’re travelling as a family and need to take into account school holidays or dream of spending a special occasion with us here in the Maldives – you can book safe in the knowledge that it’s always a great time to visit Vilamendhoo!

Vilamendhoo’s house reef provides a spectacular option for lazy days when you simply want to dive with your buddy without taking a boat trip; accessible from almost every point on the island, it’s home to more than 150 species of fish and great for underwater photography.

The dive centre on the island is operated by Euro-Divers, one of the Maldives’ most experienced dive operators and as a PADI 5 Star Centre, they offer the full range of PADI courses catering to all experience levels – from beginner to professionals. Daily dive excursions are available and with more than 50 dive sites accessible by boat from Vilamendhoo, including those to the nearby Marine Protected Area and the National Park, there are countless adventures waiting for you.
