Meet The Vilamendhoo Team: Farheen, Assistant Guest Service Manager

Soopun Farheen is the Assistant Guest Service Manager at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa. We find out what a typical day for her is like and what she likes most about her job.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is the sense of family around our workplace, everyone truly gets along and put up efforts to get the job done and that every team member has a smile on their face.

What are your hobbies?

One of my hobbies is diving. The ocean always casts its spell on me, holding me in its net of wonder forever.

What do you like most about the resort?

My favourite things about the resort are the amazing house reef, talking to the guests, learning something new every day and the team.

What is a typical day for you like?

A typical day for me starts with putting a smile on my face to create a positive start, then I attend all meetings prepared and on time. During the day, I am sure to respect my teammates, to listen to others with an open mind, to motivate each other and to trust the team in the attainment of success.

What has your job taught you?

Through my job, I have learned how to deal with challenging situations, how to be patient, the ability to multitask, how to keep a positive attitude and how to go the extra mile for guests.

Meet The Vilamendhoo Team: Ahmed Hameel, Reservations Agent

In the latest instalment of Meet the Vilamendhoo Team, we get to meet Ahmed Hameel, Reservations Agent, and get a glimpse into his world.

What do you like most about your job?

It is difficult to mention just one specific thing. Getting to interact with people from all over the world. Having the opportunity to share the beauty of Maldives, and Vilamendhoo in particular. Helping people check items off their bucket lists and fulfilling life long dreams. These are all things I love about my job.

What are your hobbies?

I have dozens of different hobbies that I shuffle around every now and then. Playing football, basketball, billiards, video games and watching movies would be my top five.

What do you like most about the resort?

To most people the answer to this question would probably be the house reef or the sunset. Yes indeed, the overwhelming natural beauty of Vilamendhoo is truly magnificent. But to me, it is the people that I work with in Vilamendhoo that really sets this place apart. It is truly a privilege to be part of this team.

What does it take to be a good Reservations Agent?

Being a Reservations Agent is about more than just entering bookings into a system. To have good knowledge about the “product” and being an excellent communicator are the fundamentals. But in my opinion, to be a good Reservations Agent, you need to be able to think outside the box, be open to new ideas and be willing to burn the candle at both ends when needed.

“Without knowledge action is useless and knowledge without action is futile.” Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA)

What’s a typical day like for you at work?

No two days are the same! We change lives, one smile at a time!

Tips for your Maldives Scuba Diving Adventure

It’s hard to imagine a more perfect destination for scuba diving than the coral reefs of the Maldives. An astounding variety of dive sites, reefs full of colourful fish and incredible bucket list sightings of whale sharks and manta rays await all those who embark upon a scuba diving adventure at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa in the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives.

Whether you’re already qualified to dive or are thinking about trying diving for the first time, here are 10 tips to get the most out of your diving adventure:

  1. Check with medical before you go – some pre-exisiting medical conditions will require a doctor to certify you as ‘fit to dive’ and this is much easier to organise at home.
  2. Rent your dive equipment when you arrive – no need to travel with lots of luggage, and remember the water is balmy so there’s no need to pack a long wetsuit either. If you want to take your own mask – get it properly fitted at a dive shop – there’s nothing that will spoil your dives more than an ill-fitting mask.
  3. Ensure you have the correct amount of weight – it’s very common for divers to have too many kilos on their weight belt – this causes poor positioning in the water, damaging corals and you’ll also use your air more quickly and so have a shorter dive – ask for a buoyancy check.
  4. If you haven’t dived for a while do a refresher – it’s a simple quick session with an instructor so you can ensure you are comfortable in the water and with the equipment before heading out on the boats to explore the reefs.
  5. Beginners – relax, you will be in very safe hands – the team at Euro-Divers are very patient and professional, the groups are very small and you’ll have the adventure of your life. Choose from full PADI Open Water Diver course or PADI Discover Scuba Diving program that requires no study – just fun!
  6. As well as looking at the life on the reef, remember to take a look into the blue water every so often – you might get lucky and spot some of the bigger pelagic creatures such as sharks, rays and tuna, cruising by.
  7. Don’t touch the coral or other marine life – not only will you harm it but it can also harm you if touched.
  8. Sharks in the Maldives are an encounter not to be missed – they’re not dangerous, it will be an encounter you’ll rememeber for many years to come.
  9. Those already qualified could think about furthering their skills with the Advanced Open Water course to learn a variety of new skills or complete the Rescue Diver Course to enhance your own confidence and be able to assist divers needing help.
  10. The PADI eLearning sysyem is available for all popular courses and means you don’t have to spend your precious holiday time in a classroom – learn at home, at your own pace.

Discover Romance With A Twist of Adventure At Vilamendhoo

The Maldives is well-known for its honeymoon resorts and romantic hotels, but it’s much more than indulgent trips to the spa and dreamy candlelight dinners on the beach. The Maldives is also a place for trying new things and making memories that will last a lifetime. Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa has everything the Maldives is famous for but is perfect for adventure and couples seeking thrills.

How to discover romance with a twist of adventure:

Discover the ocean – Vilamendhoo offers some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Maldives. Visit coral reefs full of vibrant marine life by boat or discover the incredible house reef together from the shore. If you’ve never tried scuba diving before but don’t want to do a course, try the Discover Scuba Diving program with the team from the island’s dive operator, Euro-Divers, you will be a buddy team made in heaven!

Have fun on the water – if you’re a couple of adrenalin junkies, you’ll love taking the jet skis for a spin, or learning to windsurf together. Perhaps a more serene approach to the water is more your style? The kayak offers a unique way to explore the lagoon while the stand-up paddleboards will test your balance, but the most romantic of all water sports has to be sailing away together on a catamaran.

Explore the atoll – there are many opportunities for exploring at Vilamendhoo, go on a fishing trip or visit a local island to learn more about the Maldivian way of life. Cruise the atoll in search of manta rays, whale sharks and turtles on snorkelling adventures of a lifetime.

After the adventures, you may well find that a pampering session at the spa or that candlelight dinner table on the beach is exactly what you need.

Prepare to share a romantic adventure at Vilamendhoo.

When To Visit The Maldives – Discovering Maldives with Vilamendhoo

Picture the perfect tropical holiday destination – white sandy beaches, crystal clear lagoons, balmy temperatures of about 30°C and plenty of sunshine – discover all of this at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa! But before booking you’ll want to find out about when to visit the Maldives – afterall, most tropical holidays have to be planned around the monsoons and have only a short window of opportunity for good weather, there’s good news: the Maldives is a year-round destination.

The seasons in the Maldives are due to two main monsoons, each bringing different weather patterns. High season runs from November to April and is governed by the North-East Monsoon. At this time of year you can expect fantastic weather: flat calm seas, great underwater visibility for snorkelling and scuba diving as well as plenty of sunshine. Low season starts in May and goes through to October following the South-West Monsoon and although the weather can be less settled at this time of year the sun still shines. Divers and snorkellers will love low season as the slightly decreased visibility is due to increased plankton levels – and with plankton comes a greater than usual abundance of fish. No matter when you visit the Maldives, there is no absolute rule with regards to rainfall – the islands’ lush vegetation depends on rain and it occurs throughout the year but, rest assured, it’s usually short lived and the perfect chance to visit the spa or sip a cocktail and, before you know it, the sun will have reappeared!

The seasons don’t really matter too much with regards to marine life either – Vilamendhoo’s enviable location in South Ari Atoll is perfect for those bucket-list encounters all year round – the manta rays and whale sharks take no notice of the season, luckily for our divers and snorkelers, sightings are possible in every month.

Whether you’re travelling as a family and need to take into account school holidays or dream of spending a special occasion with us here in the Maldives – you can book safe in the knowledge that it’s always a great time to visit Vilamendhoo!
